About the The Beer of India Awards

The Beer of India Awards is being conducted by Brewer World – India’s first and only web platform dedicated to the Beer and Brewing Community with over a million visitors on their website.

The mission of the Awards Ceremony is to recognize the excellence in Beer across India with a blind tasting judging process (Entries are not judged against each other but rather each entry is judged on its own merits) and aims to become one of the most premier Beer judging competition for the Beer Industry in India.

The prizes awarded at the Competition is to the high-quality beers, which are genuine and full of character, true to their Style and in accordance to the 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines. The competition is open only to commercial brewers and Microbreweries of all production sizes in India (excluding Home Brewers and Imported Beers).

The Results of the 2023 The Beer of India Awards will be announced during the 2nd Edition of BW Conclave 2023 held at KTPO, Whitefield, Bengaluru on Friday the 24th of February 2023.

    *The exact timelines for Judging Process in each state planned would be furnished after the 10th of December when we know the number of entries from each State received.

    Pricing and Registration Fees:

    INR 7,500 For minimum Two Beer Style Entries (If you are looking to enter only one then the INR 5,000 entry fee stands).

    Additional INR 2,500For every other Beer Style Entries

    Additional 18% GST would be levied on the Registration Fees towards participation.

    Important Notes:
    • One Brewery can enter a maximum of FIVE (5) Beer Styles.
    • Breweries should ensure Beers are entered into the right Styles based on the Guidelines, if in case a wrong entry has been done then that beer would not be judged and will be disqualified from the judging process. If Breweries need assistance to understand the right Style their Beer is classified into we can assist for the same.
    • Beers entered for the Judging competition should be the property of the Brand. In case of Contract Brewing the brand registered should be the one who is submitting the entry and not the contract brewer.
    • Participating brands/breweries can only enter their beer style once in any form (e.g. taproom, keg, crowler, bottle or can).
    • ‘Collaboration’ (or similar) beers may only be entered by one party, which must be the party that has the greatest ownership (financial interest) of the beer. If financial interest is equally shared, the beer must be entered by the brewery where the beer was produced.
    • For On Tap Awards –Minimum number of entries for Judging and winning the Award is 7 entries (i.e. 3 awards – Gold, Silver and Bronze) and in case we have only 5 entries in any of the categories then only one winner (Gold) would be awarded. If in case less than 5 entries are received the category would not be eligible for any awards and the registration fees would be refunded.
    • For the Bottled and Canned Awards – The Light Lager, Strong Lager and Witbier Categories will have three winners (Gold, Silver and Bronze Awarded. Minimum number of entries for Judging and winning the Award is 7 and in case of IPA and Stout it is 4 or 5.
    Disqualification

    The Chief Judge, in consultation with the Competition Manager, shall have the power to reallocate, dismiss or disqualify as being ineligible for judging, any exhibit that, in their opinion, does not comply with the regulations in every respect, and such reallocation, dismissal or disqualification shall be accepted as final.

    Judging Process

    Entries are allocated a number as a unique identifier to ensure the anonymity of the entries and to retain the integrity of the judging process.

    Entries are not judged against each other but rather each entry is judged on its own merits.

    All beers are judged ‘blind’ and are scored out of fifty (50) points against the criteria:

    Aroma (as appropriate for a style)12 Points

    Appearance (as appropriate for a style)<)3 Points

    Flavor (as appropriate for a style)20 Points

    Mouthfeel (as appropriate for a style))5 Points

    Overall Impression10 Points

    Beer Judging Award Criteria

    Gold MedalA world class beer that accurately exemplifies the style, or may vary slightly from style parameters, while displaying the proper balance of taste, aroma and appearance.

    Silver Medal An excellent beer that may vary from style parameters while maintaining close adherence to the style and displaying excellent taste, aroma and appearance.

    Bronze Medal A fine example that may vary from style parameters and have minor deviations in taste, aroma or appearance

    Judges:

    To ensure the Awards carry weightage and Credibility the organizers aim to have a mix of BJCP Certified Judges, Cicerone Certified Professionals, Experienced Brewers from India and also Reputed International Judges and Beer Sommeliers.

    How to Enter Industry Awards:

    Written submissions for each of the Industry Awards can be made by completing the appropriate form on the entry website.
